The UK government announced a package of AI security measures on October 12, combining defensive applications with preparations for emerging risks.

Officials said earlier pilots had helped identify and address more than 1,000 potential vulnerabilities across government systems. The government plans to extend this work.

Preparing for incidents that move faster

The National Cyber Security Centre and AI Security Institute are examining responses to incidents involving autonomous agents.

The government is also exploring stronger protections through the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill regime, including how serious AI incidents and near misses could be identified and reported. These remain policy development areas.

The announcement separately confirmed that the AI Security Institute was evaluating the latest generation of advanced models. It did not publish evaluation results.

Response capacity becomes part of AI readiness

AIYXL Perspective: As agents gain the ability to act across connected systems, incident planning should address speed, permissions and recovery.

A practical exercise can test whether operators can detect unexpected actions, identify affected systems and stop further execution. Such preparation complements model testing by examining the organization’s ability to respond.
