Kazakhstan’s AI infrastructure ambitions have gained a construction milestone: Firebird’s first phase with Kazakhtelecom is under way at Data Center Valley.
NVIDIA reported the investment agreement alongside Jensen Huang’s October 23 visit to Astana. Firebird has secured a U.S. export license for 45,000 Grace Blackwell GPUs; that authorization does not establish that all units have arrived.
Commercial launch is targeted for the third quarter of 2027. A planned second phase would bring total potential capacity to approximately 500 megawatts.
Kazakhtelecom separately has deployed 400 NVIDIA H200 and 480 B300 GPUs in Astana and Almaty, according to NVIDIA. Those installations are distinct from Firebird’s future capacity.
The next meaningful milestones are delivery, commissioning and customer access. They will show how infrastructure commitments translate into computing resources that local developers and businesses can use.
